Beach Retreat, St. Ives

We really weren’t sure if we’d be able to prise ourselves away from our absolutely beautiful holiday cottage in St Ives this week and we were more than a little sad to say goodbye to it this morning. Beach Retreat is set back in Downalong, St. Ives, within touching distance of the town, harbour, Porthgwidden, Porthmeor and never ending coastal walks. Its’ location couldn’t be more idyllic. We stepped out of the front door and looked down onto Smeaton Pier with Carbis Bay twinkling in the background and life could not have felt much better! There is something about the Cornish sea air that makes life slow down a bit and blows away all the worries of everyday life. Beach Retreat is a beautiful Cornish town house which is decorated in a very rustic, nautical theme which couldn’t be more to our taste! Every detail of this beautiful house has been explicitly thought out, with tiled floors downstairs to kick off sandy shoes on and cosier, deep sofas in the living area on the middle floor to curl up on after a busy day on the coast.   We always book through Aspects Holidays when we stay in Cornwall. Their service is second to none and they have a huge wealth of properties available across Cornwall with something to suit everyone. This cottage blew us away though, from the second we arrived. We were greeted by a welcome hamper of tea, coffee and sugar, a freshly baked loaf, bottle of Cornish apple juice and a bottle of wine and some milk in the fridge. On the side were dishwasher tablets, washing powder and all the sundries needed in the kitchen and bathrooms. We didn’t need to rush out to a shop, instead we just bided our time, got a takeaway and sat down to take in our surroundings, thanks to the brilliant housekeeper.

Each of the bedrooms was beautifully decorated in coordinating sets with amazing blinds which fooled Darcey info sleeping in later on more than one occasion! The linen is beautiful and there are huge bath sheets on offer with lovely little toiletries for each guest. These little finishing touches add an element of luxury that you’d expect from a hotel but are a lovely surprise in a rented property.

Darcey absolutely loved exploring the different floors of the house and it was all very child friendly (although would be brilliantly suited to a non-family holiday too). The only thing we’d do slightly differently next time is to buy a narrow stair gate as the one we’d bought was slightly too wide for the stairs there. I’m sure if we’d have called Aspects they may have been able to suggest a solution but we just kept an extra careful watch on Darcey around the stairs.

We had so many wonderful adventures exploring St. Ives this week; a highlight was watching a cheeky seal frolick in the waves at Porthgwidden, just 30 seconds up the road from the cottage. We can’t recommend this property more highly. It’s a wonderful base for you to explore this part of Cornwall from although we barely moved the car this week because there was too much to do right on our doorstep!

Aspects come highly recommended from us, having used them for the last two years. The booking process is easy and staff are lovely. We can’t wait to return to another of their properties in summer (and Autumn!), we are homeward bound now & will be booking as soon as we’re back! Thank you for a wonderful week of family time in our favourite part of the world.

*Disclaimer* We weren’t asked to write this post or compensated for its’ production, we simply had a wonderful week in this beautiful cottage and wanted to shout about it! All words and pictures are our own.
